ABSTRACT

Purpose: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) situation has led to the emergence of virtual teams in all organizations, and the role of leadership has become more pertinent. The current research focuses on understanding the factors for better team performance in virtual teams. Based on the contingency perspective, the behavioral complexity in leadership (BCL) theory is the most appropriate as BCL requires the leader to demonstrate multiple contrasting leadership behaviors according to the situation. Both internal as well external roles were explored, which could facilitate better communication quality and role clarity to increase interpersonal trust and leadership effectiveness in the current crisis. Design/methodology/approach: Data were collected from employees who have worked in virtual teams during the crisis and who have experience of working in a virtual team environment. A total of 200 questionnaires were distributed, and 175 were received. A path model was built applying partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM). Findings: Communication quality has come as a partial mediator for the relationship between internal and external leadership roles and trust. Role clarity fully mediated the relationship between external leadership roles and conflict. Internal and external leadership roles showed a significant effect on leadership effectiveness, which were further related to team performance in virtual teams. Additionally, synchronous technology was used more by virtual teams. Research limitations/implications: The study did not examine cultural differences or cultural adaptation in virtual teams. Instead of the BCL theory, future research may apply attribute-based or relational-based theory to examine leadership roles in virtual team performance. Originality/value: Using the BCL theory, the current study contributes to an understanding of virtual team performance and the internal as well as external role of leaders. This is relevant in an environment of extreme ambiguity such as COVID-19. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

ABSTRACT

Initiatives for marine conservation are funded by revenue from marine sites. However, the emergence of COVID-19 has restricted travelling, thus leading to decreased revenue and weakening conservation efforts. Virtual reality technology to support marine conservation efforts is explored as it allows users to experience marine sites, without having to be there physically. This study examines factors influencing users' desire to adopt virtual reality technology in marine ecotourism. With the integration of Stimulus-Organism-Response framework and three behavioural theories (i.e. health belief model, attitude, and eTrust), a hypothetical model was constructed to investigate consumers' intention to adopt virtual reality technology in marine ecotourism amidst the pandemic. The data were analysed and interpreted using structural equation modelling after 451 survey responses were obtained via an online questionnaire. Outcome expectation, perceived susceptibility, perceived severity, self-efficacy, and cues to action exhibit significant positive effects on attitude towards virtual reality technology in marine ecotourism. Consequently, attitude has a direct and indirect influence on use intention via eTrust. Post hoc analysis revealed that self-efficacy has a direct impact on eTrust and use intention. Total effect analysis further concluded that attitude has the greatest influence on use intention of virtual reality technology in marine ecotourism. This research contributes to the existing literature by utilizing health belief factors to explain use intention of technology towards marine conservation efforts. Recommendations including policy formulation and marketing initiatives were generated for marine ecotourism operators and policymakers. © 2022 Elsevier Ltd

ABSTRACT

PurposeCoronavirus disease (COVID-19) was declared as a pandemic since COVID-19's widespread outbreak and the hospitality industry has been the hardest hit due to lockdown. Consequently, hospitality workers are suffering from the negative aspects of mental health. In the event of such a crisis, this study aims to explore the link between unemployment and home isolation to the willingness to choose electronic consultation (e-consultation) by exploiting psychological ill-being and behavioural intention (BI) with marital status as a moderator.Design/methodology/approachA quantitative methodology is applied to primary data collected from 310 workers from the hospitality industry through an online survey.FindingsFindings of this study suggest that the usage of the e-consultation service can be adopted using three levels. There are valid reasons to conclude unemployment and home isolation are linked to higher rates of psychological health behaviours, which can result in stigma, loss of self-worth and increased mortality. The adverse effect is higher for single individuals than for married people.Originality/valueThe study focussed on e-consultation, BI coupled with the Fishbein scale and a classification model for the prediction of willingness to choose e-consultation with the extension of Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB).

ABSTRACT

The use of Information Technology in the banking sector presents innovations in financial services that are practical, safe, fast, and offer many advantages. This innovation is certainly very useful during the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and perceived security on interest in using Dana e-wallet through e-trust as an intervening variable. The type of research conducted by the researcher is associative research. The results showed that perceived usefulness, perceived convenience, and perceived security had a significant effect on e-trust. E-trust has an effect on interest in using e-wallet. Perceptions of benefits and security have an effect on interest in using e-wallet, while perceptions of convenience have a significant effect on interest in using funds through e-trust as an intervening variable. ABSTRACT

Pandemic COVID-19 brought immediate impact on consumers behavior in Indonesia. Pandemic COVID-19 caused an increase in online activities in Indonesia, including online shopping activities. The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of e-trust, reputation, product risk, e-coupon on building e-loyalty toward online shops in Indonesia during pandemic COVID-19. Data were obtained through a survey of 407 respondents. SEM PLS was used to analyzed the proposed theoretical model. The results show that e-coupon, e-trust significantly affect e-loyalty. The result also shows that e-coupon, reputation, product risk significantly affects e-trust. Online shop owner in Indonesia should focus on improving e-trust to achieve e-loyalty.

ABSTRACT

While ICT is burgeoning in southeast Asia, online food delivery (OFD) picking upstream due to its concrete influence on the mob’s experience. The COVID-19 pandemic caused an unprecedented impact in most commerce including OFD due to the escalation of safety aspects. On account of the explosion of the pandemic and to prevent the spread of COVID-19, socio- and economic factors arise that likely turn OFD potential user’s attitudes and behavior. This report highlights a six-month-long online survey (n = 158) in Bangladesh that analyzes the fluctuation in OFD consumer tendency, identifying the polarization of potential purchasers during the COVID-19 and considering the safety, e-satisfaction, and e-trust. Besides, we also discussed the associations between these determinants that are responsible for polarizing the consumers into marginal groups during the pandemic in developing countries like Bangladesh and proposed some suggestions for OFD service providers based on our findings. © 2022, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

ABSTRACT

GoFood is an online food delivery service on the Gojek application that leads the market share in Indonesia with transaction growth that exceeds transportation service transactions and has the highest brand identity, does not guarantee satisfaction to GoFood users. There are many complaints that consumers feel when using GoFood services, related to problems of trust in the service due to mismatches in customer expectations of GoFood services. This problem, if left unchecked, can affect customer satisfaction (e-customer satisfaction) so that it can reduce consumer loyalty (e-customer loyalty). This study aims to determine the effect of e-trust on e-customer loyalty through e-customer satisfaction on GoFood service users in Indonesia. This type of research is descriptive and causal with a quantitative approach. Sampling in this study using a non-probability sampling method with a purposive sampling type of 100 people. The analysis technique used in this research is Structural Equity Modeling (SEM) processed with SmartPLS software. The results of his research prove that e-trust does not have a positive and insignificant effect on e-customer loyalty, e-trust has a positive and significant effect on e-customer satisfaction, e-customer satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on e-customer loyalty, e-trust has a positive and significant effect on e-customer loyalty through e-customer satisfaction. © IEOM Society International.
